“For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.” Romans 12:4

Paul uses the metaphor of the physical body to describe how we are to act as members of the one body in Christ. ….”Individually, we are members one of another.”

It’s not all about us. It is about the one body in Christ. We each work to support the function of the whole.

It’s not that about lone-rangers. It is about the one body in Christ. We need each other, more than we ever realize.

It’s not about conformity. It is about the one body in Christ. God loves diversity and has crafted a body of beautiful and rich diversity – diversity of thought, of culture, of eye color, of vocal range, and of course of all of our preferred categories of division (race, sexuality, nationality, political party, etc…)

So what is the rule of the body? How do we function together? What brings unity? LOVE.

Love creates the unity. Love unites the parts in the whole. Love leads the way.

Faith, hope, and love, but the greatest of these is love.

Prayer: God, who is Love, you are creator of diversity and source of unity. Knit our hearts together in Love that we may be your people, united and whole, working our way to a better world. Amen.
